Universal Jurisdiction Working Group - South Africa

The debate on the principle of Universal Jurisdiction has been ongoing at institutions, universities and other legal forums at the international level for some time now. Since the development of the Princeton Principles on Universal Jurisdiction in 2001, the discussion on the development and application of universal jurisdiction has continued to receive the attention of legal experts. Recent developments in this area has made the continued discussion of the subject even more imperative and the formulation of the Madrid proposal for the discussion of the principles of Universal Jurisdiction facilitated by FIBGAR seeks to take this debate forward. On the 19th and 20th August 2015, the FIBGAR Working Group will be hosted in South Africa at the South African Research Chair in International Law, University of Johannesburg, APK Campus, for further deliberations on the subject matter.
